House swapping – would you do this? Daily Mail story …

Story about holiday home swaps and how they don’t always go to plan – appeared in the DAILY MAIL newspaper this week.

Would you be happy to have strangers live in your house? The idea might fill you with horror. But this is the latest trend for recession-hit families to take a holiday abroad – swapping homes with another family.
In fact, as this article shows, they are usually very successful. Researching this feature, I discovered house swapping isn’t for anyone who is too precious about their home. That said, the vast majority of holiday home swappers will take great care of the house they are staying in – probably because you will be staying in their house!
Things don’t always go to plan however. For example, one house swapper in my feature ended up staying in a hotel when builders unexpectedly arrived at the house she was staying in. And another couple recounted how they ended up sleeping with the Husky dog living in the house they were in.
Then house swapping entails a certain amount of work – advertising your house, cleaning it for your new guests and preparing a book about your home for your guests to read.
The rewards can be superb – as shown in the feature one couple swapped their own gorgeous UK home for an even larger one in the US.
