The Blossom Method™ – the revolutionary way to communicate with your baby from birth is published by Random House UK and has been available on Amazon Kindle since June 2012.
What is the book about?
The Blossom Method is about how, through an intense bond with my deaf mother who never used sign-language, I became particularly attuned to the world of non-verbal communication and body language, resulting in myself devising an intuitive preverbal technique to communicate with my own baby, Blossom, and now I’m relaying the knowledge and skills I have to other parents…
The discoveries I have made in relation to babies remain previously unrecorded. My work has been described as pioneering and revolutionary as I may well have discovered the pre-verbal language of babies and in doing so, created a method – The Blossom Method. As a result I am supporting parents across the globe to communicate with and understand their babies’ from the day they are born! And certainly I can teach parents to understand what their baby is ‘telling’ them or what their baby needs long before they reach the crying stage! The Blossom Method™ will change the way we parent our babies forever.
I started jotting things down, with a view to finding a publisher later. But thanks to the internet, word soon got out and I ended up having a meeting at Random House, who agreed to be my publisher.
How did you go about getting published?
My story to publication is also interesting… determined to secure a deal with a top publishing house I set about getting the original manuscript globally reviewed by complete strangers who happen to be bestselling parenting authors, professors, psychologists and most importantly parents. I then approached Random House UK and my publishing deal was secured.
Have you had any publicity for your book?
My book has been featured in the press in both the UK parenting magazines (Mother & Baby, Junior, Pregnancy & Birth and will be featured in Gurgle in September). It has been in press all over the UK and in the Daily Mail, Irish News, The Weekly News and even The Portugal News! It has been featured on blogs across the world and once more the reviews are sensational.
Did you do anything else that helped you write your book?
Even though my mother doesn’t use sign language I had a desire to understand more about deafness and the deaf community so I studied (University of Bristol) I am one of only 25 (UK wide) sign language qualified and registered Psychotherapists. I am fluent in sign language and formerly trained as a sign language interpreter. In February this year I was diagnosed as having a hearing loss myself. This is probably a genetic loss which I see as a gift from my mother.
My daughter Blossom has been given the label of ‘Gifted and Talented in the Areas of Literacy and Communication’. Is this because of the way we communicated so early on in her life..?
What’s next for you both?
Our next project sees myself and Blossom, now age 7 years, working together on a book! Blossom said, “if you can write a book, so can I, Mummy!” So I’m working on a title with her as we speak. This book will also take the world by storm but I cannot reveal the details of this as yet but watch this space…
