Alison Peters’ story about how she was scammed out of £120k to a conman she met online appeared in the Daily Mirror.
Alison, 65, tells about how, during the difficult divorce she was going through, she decided to try out online dating and developed a relationship with a man called Steve. Steve claimed he was a self-employed petroleum engineer earning £100,000 a year and travelled the world.
He sounded perfect.
Steve seemed sympathetic, caring and real. The couple were talking everyday and discussing meeting up, until something supposedly went wrong with a big project Steve was working on. He asked Alison for some money and, blinded by his sensitivity and how sure she was that he was perfect for her, she lent him the money, triggering a spiral of loans that have never been paid off.
It started off with just a £50 add on to Steve’s phone credit and ended with a £70,000 payment for medical bills after he told her he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer…
Alison, now working things out with her husband, David, told her story to gain publicity for other women to see how easy it is for this to happen.
Her story has also appeared in Take A Break magazine and more deals are still being organised for Alison.
