BY DAVID P PERLMUTTER
Name, age and area where you live in the UK
David P Perlmutter, 48 years young and just moved to Somerset. Just relocated after 5 years in Portugal.
Book name, publication date, who book is published by.
Wrong Place Wrong Time, 14th June 2012 and self published with Amazon. The story is based on true events that happen to me 20 years ago on a visit to Spain where after saving two lives, I was wrongly arrested for arson and manslaughter.
At this moment the book is currently #859 Bestseller and #6 in True Crime in AmazonUK.
Is this your first book?
Yes this is my first book. The reason why I wrote the story was to put my side of the story out and also it was like therapy when putting the words on paper, or as it was on my laptop. However, I am in the process of writing two further books.
What is the book about?
The story is about how, after leaving a party for some air I came across a hotel that was on fire. I ended up saving two lives but was then was wrongly arrested for arson and manslaughter.
I spent time in jail before managing to get bail. I then managed to get a one way ticket and fled Spain and never have been back. That is the story.
A few months after arriving back in the UK, I got married had 3 children, I am now divorced. I have had another child who is 3 years old.
My family are very close, 4 brothers and 1 sister, my mother and my father passed away 10 years ago. Without my father I would not have had left Spain. He was amazing and encouraged me to write this story.
They were a huge part of the book.
The headlines and what happened still haunt me everyday as I did see charred dead bodies. Fortunately I wasn’t in jail long enough for it to affect me.
How long did it take to write?
The book took just under 3 years to complete and I started writing the story in Portugal. There were some breaks when family and friends visited plus had my fourth child, so took 6 months off writing. Then I had to fit it around my job. At the time I lived in Portugal marketing business and hotel resorts.
How did you get published?
My book is self published with Amazon. I haven’t approached a literary agent or a publisher.
Was it hard to get published?
Self publishing my book was surprisingly easy. I just made sure that the book was formatted correctly and had a great cover which my twin designed and uploaded onto Amazon. So pretty straight forward.
Where your book is on sale?
My book is on a number of websites worldwide but you can buy it from Amazon. I am having a special Christmas offer from now until end of December, so a great time to by my book.
Any advice for other book writers?
Well as it is my first book, my advice would be enjoy the ride in writing, keep positive, write then edit. Once the book is complete then the hard work begins with the marketing. I love that side of the business. If you want your book out there, you must be quite aggressive in marketing your book that you have spent so much time working on.
I market my book on twitter, facebook and my blog. And I have been interviewed by many websites about my book all over the world.
