Are we poisoning our pets?

My interview with vet Pete Coleshaw appeared in the Daily Mail newspaper yesterday. Following on from statistics that show Britain’s pets are growing fatter, the newspaper asked me to find a pet expert who could give some advice about feeding. The most important advice Pete gave was to study labels on the food you give to pets. For cats and dogs, there should be a minimum of 50% meat and dry food is not right for cats (because it can contribute to urinary problems.) He also suggests introducing raw food into your cat or dog’s diet – however, care must be done to feed this properly. Pete’s excellent website, www.bunnieseatgrass.com doesn’t only discuss feeding rabbits but cats and dogs too. Comparing all the different processed foods on the market, it is a must read for any pet owner.
