Why you started your blog, when you started it – and how? What were your aims?

I originally started my blog on a free Blogger platform in 2008 in order to answer all the questions we were regularly asked on having a larger than average family. I wanted to provide encouragement and reassurance to other parents, especially to those with large families. I also knew that I wanted the blog to grow into something more and to create an income of sorts from it more than three years on it is! It’s now earning enough of a regular income that my oldest son is taking on some of the reviews and doing some writing for the site too. It’s a great way for me to earn while still being able to stay at home with the children rather than having to work out of the house.

How often you blog … is it hard to think of new blogs? Larger Family Life blog

I try to post something every day. The blog has since grown and grown and now I have many categories that I can write within. Sometimes posts will be topical, sometimes I’ll be running reviews and competitions and sometimes I’ll just be having a general chit-chat. Some days I’ll do more than one thing if I have a lot to say – that can be pretty frequent! Last year I also self published two books, Larger Family Life and Twin Pregnancy Diary. Both are available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle.

What makes your blog stand out?

My husband and I have eleven children so that makes us stand out a little! I write about life in a large family as well as general pregnancy, parenting and family topics. We also cover recipes, moneysaving, crafts, education and entertainment for families too. There’s quite a selection!

Any awards?

I haven’t won anything. I’m still surprised anyone at all reads it!

What now?

I would love to see it continue to grow and grow. I hope I encourage other parents and would like to continue to do so. I’d also like to be in a position to create paid positions for other mums who’d like to write for it. I would also love to write more for other publications or sites – a column would be a dream come true!

To sum up:

I want to continue to write and to enjoy it. I am very lucky that I am doing what I love and am getting an income for it too. I hope I can continue to be an encouragement to others, even when I’m telling about how motherhood really is some days, warts and all! Mostly, I hope that my blog continues to grow and that people enjoy reading it.
