Kerry Robertson marries at last! Congratulations…

Kerry Robertson – who was judged by social workers to be too unintelligent to marry – has wed… story in the SUNDAY MIRROR yesterday.

A year ago Kerry, 18, and her fiance Mark McDougall, 27, came to me to sell a story for justice after their church wedding was cancelled by social workers who decided Kerry was too dim to understand her vows. At the time the story made The Daily Mail newspaper. But worse was to come for the couple. For Kerry, who was pregnant, was also told she was too stupid to keep her baby.
The couple fled to Ireland where they believed their case would be looked on more sympathetically but tragically when their son was just four days old he was taken into care. Kerry’s devastating case caused a public outcry. Thankfully, Kerry was since reunited with her son when she went into a mother and baby home.
But last Friday Mark and Kerry finally did get married. I am delighted to report they had a beautiful – and very poignant – wedding in a hotel in Ireland with around 25 close family and friends.
I then arranged for a small announcement to be put in the Sunday Mirror at the weekend – this is another national newspaper that has also closely followed their story.
The couple now hope they will be able to bring their son home and live as a normal family at last. And I will keep you posted with any updates.
