Four months ago Shirley’s story appeared in the Daily Mirror – so what happened next?

Deciding whether to sell your story or not can be a nerve-wracking decision to make.
Here, Shirley Yanez recounts her ‘selling story’ experience. Shirley’s real life story about how she has given up sex appeared in the DAILY MIRROR newspaper in May.

Why did you decide to sell your story through Featureworld?
I decided to do the article after I was recommended to talk to Alison and read about how she tells real life stories to inspire others. Alison was fantastic and read back the story before she submitted to the paper so I was very excited to read it in print. I felt in complete control about what she had written about me.

What did you think of your story when you saw it in print?
When I saw it I was really pleased and felt quite emotional.
When my family and friends read about my story they were all very excited and glad I had told such an interesting side to my life in order to help others.

Do you have any advice for people about selling their story?
If you are going to sell your story to the world it is very important to find someone who is experienced at understanding your emotions, Alison was just brilliant and made me feel at ease. I would recommend it every time.

And what’s happened since?
Selling my story boosted my own profile and I have been asked to do talks on radio and TV. As a professional life coach, it also gave me the impetus to start my own website, Venus Cow. This is the first free on-line virtual life coaching service offering advice on the way you think about your own life – and ultimately improving your life on a budget.
